drawing circle: sunday meet
drawing circle is conceptualised and organised by jinal sangoi. They are collaboratively facilitated by participants.
drawing circle is a gathering of individuals sitting in a circle to collaboratively draw. It was conceptualised in early 2020 primarily for physical meetings to explore collective thinking through collaborative drawing.
A circular seating in the drawing circle allows everyone to see each other. We all grew up drawing. Sometimes on paper, other times on sand, soil, water, space, by hand, by foot, by gestures and movements. Often through these drawings, we explore new ideas. Drawing Circle facilitates thinking in a collective way, allowing non-hierarchical learning and sharing of knowledge.
drawing circle: sunday meet is a time-specific version of the project that was initiated virtually due to COVID-19. It is conducted via online meeting platforms on Sunday mornings at 10am IST [Indian Standard Time].
What is the new structure of the economy that composes us in tiny digital frames and screens? How does this “new normal” affect our bodily gestures and behaviors? How do we calculate distances, when it takes the same time to reach out to our neighbors and reach out to someone on the other side of the world? How do our emotions occupy spaces of physical absence? What is “on-site” or “site-specific” in the current situation while communicating via online platforms?
In the drawing circle, we collectively address and explore our questions using drawing as a mode of communication both inwards and outwards.
Please see ‘events’ for upcoming drawing circles.
