9 white sarees, human hair
Crafted Lines plays with a subtle but symbolically charged black and white contrast: creating a poetic curtain made with nine chiffon sarees with pierced hair. Using human hair as a thread interweaving with the traditional cloth, this installation not only creates a statement for the beauty of natural hair, but also works as a skin-like membrane, that, to see things clearly, the viewer needs to go to the other side. Dividing the space into two parts, this fragile installation forces people to touch, open and enter - re-enacting and realizing the gendered binary code which critics our gender cognition.
